La Casa Norte’s leadership team maximizes its mission through innovative approaches that combat the impact of poverty and homelessness.

Leadership

  • Jose M. Muñoz, Executive Director

Jose M. Muñoz was named executive director of La Casa Norte in February 2020. With over 20 years experience in executive management, government affairs, and public relations, and as a lifetime resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side, Jose came with the experience and drive to propel the agency forward.

At the start of his tenure, La Casa Norte faced some of its most difficult years. Seeing the disproportionate impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on low-income communities of color, La Casa Norte made a public commitment to meet rising community need. This included staffing a 24/7 youth shelter, hosting pop-up food pantries, and helping administer government-funded rent and cash assistance. La Casa Norte tripled the number of people served in 2020, reaching 18,618 people, and by 2023, served 22,811 youth and adults.

Our leadership team and staff, board of directors, and community partners continue to develop innovative solutions to curb poverty and hunger, expand shelter and housing opportunities for youth, and create healthier communities across Chicago.
